Our Company Structure
Motability Operations is a not-for-profit public company that runs the Motability Car Scheme, and more recently, the Powered Wheelchair and Scooter Scheme. Primarily it offers customers suitable affordable cars or products through contract hire, payable directly through customers’ mobility benefits. Hire purchase is also available for cars. Any surpluses are re-invested in the business for the benefit of our customers.
The schemes provided by Motability Operations are overseen by Motability (the Charity) who also have responsibility for ensuring the schemes deliver value for money for its customers. The Charity sets the strategic direction of the schemes and monitors the performance of Motability Operations.
Motability is a national charity set up at the initiative of the Government in 1977 and incorporated under Royal Charter to assist disabled people with their mobility needs. The Motability Scheme was established by the Charity in 1978. Motability and Motability Operations are constitutionally and operationally separate entities.
Motability Operations delivers worry-free motoring and mobility to our customers at affordable prices. Our frontline departments are:
Customer Services
• Provides a one-stop-shop that meets customers’ needs and aims to exceed their expectations
• Handles information requests, issues and concerns, and helps customers through initial car choice and renewal.
Manufacturer Relations
• Maintains and develops business relationships with manufacturer partners, including Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) converters
• Negotiates vehicle pricing and supply with manufacturers, working with them to maximise their Motability opportunity.
Dealer Relations
• Manages the relationship with our network of over 4,500 dealer partners
• Supports and provides training for dealers, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
Operations
• Calculate and set car prices quarterly, after assessing the depreciation, service, maintenance, repair and insurance costs for each vehicle
• Maintains the condition of the live fleet by managing and monitoring the servicing and maintenance of our cars
• Provides specialist technical expertise
• Sells ex-lease vehicles through a number of routes such as www.mfldirect.co.uk, auctions and directly to customers and their families.
