Our Company Structure

Motability Operations is a not-for-profit public company that runs the Motability Car Scheme, and more recently, the Powered Wheelchair and Scooter Scheme. Primarily it offers customers suitable affordable cars or products through contract hire, payable directly through customers’ mobility benefits.  Hire purchase is also available for cars. Any surpluses are re-invested in the business for the benefit of our customers.

The schemes provided by Motability Operations are overseen by Motability (the Charity) who also have responsibility for ensuring the schemes deliver value for money for its customers.  The Charity sets the strategic direction of the schemes and monitors the performance of Motability Operations.

Motability is a national charity set up at the initiative of the Government in 1977 and incorporated under Royal Charter to assist disabled people with their mobility needs.  The Motability Scheme was established by the Charity in 1978.  Motability and Motability Operations are constitutionally and operationally separate entities.
