I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Motability Operations Ltd.

This Welcome Guide outlines the main safety practices at Motability Operations, together with an overview of some of the facilities and services available here at Forthstone. It should be used in conjunction with our Environmental Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy and its procedures.

If you have any questions about the safety standards and practices described in this Welcome Guide, please speak to your Host, Manager, or the Facilities department.

Health, Safety and Welfare

Our objectives are to identify, remove, reduce, or control material risk of accidents or injuries to anyone who works at or visits our premises.

We ask that all employees and visitors abide by the current Health and Safety legislation and adhere to Motability Operations’ procedures. A copy of our Health and Safety policy is available on request.

Please follow the Health and Safety notices displayed throughout all our buildings and take all reasonable measures to ensure your safety, and the safety of others, is not put at risk.

If you are ever in any area subject to special restrictions you must, where necessary, obtain and comply with the requirements and workplace precautions for that area.

General Health and Safety rules

  • Always work in accordance with designated safe systems of work
  • Promptly report any condition or activity which appears to be of significant risk
  • Never deliberately misuse plant equipment
  • Do not tamper with anything that has been provided in the interest of Health and Safety
  • Report any accidents, however minor, to the Facilities team
  • There is a no smoking policy throughout our premises. Please see the map for the designated smoking areas

We ask that you familiarise yourself with your local fire exit and routes as displayed within this Welcome Guide and as displayed within the buildings.

Fire alarm test

  • For the purposes of familiarisation there will be an alarm test once a week on a Thursday morning between 10:30-11am unless otherwise stated
  • The alarm will sound for a short time and no action needs to be taken
  • If the alarm continues to sound after this time, then an evacuation of the building will be required

Persons discovering a fire

  • Should you discover a fire, do not put yourself and others at risk, sound the fire alarm immediately by pressing one of the fire call points located on all floors

On hearing the fire alarm

  • Leave the building by the nearest available fire exit
  • Do not stop to collect personal belongings
  • Do not use the lifts
  • Go directly to the assembly point and remain at this location until instructed otherwise
  • Do not re-enter the building until you are instructed to do so



Our Security team are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • We kindly ask that your pass is kept on you and displayed at all times
  • Please look out for any individuals who may be tailgating and notify Security of any suspicious activity
  • If you discover a suspicious package, please move away from the item, and notify the Security team immediately
  • Visitors are the responsibility of their meeting host/manager and should be signed in at Reception 

Good to know

  • There are showers located on the ground floor in the North Wing available for use by employees
  • We offer secure cycle storage throughout the premises
  • Our post room located on the ground floor is open for personal deliveries. We ask that they are a reasonable size and collected promptly
  • Wi-Fi is available, simply connect to “MO Internet” and follow the instructions
  • We have an induction loop system installed in all meeting rooms. Please contact Facilities if you require more information and support


  • The nearest bus hub is Lothian Buses on South Gyle Broadway, the nearest train station is Edinburgh Park, and the nearest tram is Edinburgh Park Central. Please see map for locations


As part of our efforts for a sustainable future, we have already implemented the following:

  • BREEAM Excellent and SKA Gold award for Forthstone and a company EHS policy aligned to ISO14001 and ISO45001
  • Energy monitoring and reduction technologies at all locations
  • Free to use Electric Vehicle charging points – see the map for charging locations. Simply download the Pod Point app and create an account using your Motability Operations email
  • We purchase 100% REGO backed green electricity
  • LED technology is used in 100% of office lighting
  • We have 100% diversion from landfill
  • All consumables found in our restaurants and coffee shops are made from plant-based materials
  • Water saving sensor technology installed in our washrooms
  • All paper used in our MFD printers is FSC certified
  • Our coffee machines use sustainably sourced coffee beans
  • Our stationary products are sustainably sourced

Accidents and First Aid

Please report all incidents to the Facilities team.

Details of First Aiders and Fire Marshalls can be found on each floor along with a First Aid box. Defibrillators are available in every building entrance.

Refresh Restaurant

Our Refresh restaurant, located on the lower ground floor, is open daily from 07:30-15:30 and offers a variety of tasty, healthy and freshly made food. With both hot and cold options available, you can find the weekly menu on Freeway or within Refresh.

  • Breakfast is served from 07:30-10:00
  • Lunch is served from 11:30-15:00
